Our vision is to foster vibrant communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. We develop and manage facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8, including THEARC, Building Bridges Farms, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. Since 2005, we've grown significantly, with 14 nonprofits housed in our facilities, making us the largest social service multisector nonprofit collaboration in the country. Major milestones include THEARC's 20th anniversary in 2025, the opening of a new campus for the Washington School for Girls, and the groundbreaking of the 11th Street Bridge Park.Our work environment is ideal for motivated, passionate, and friendly individuals. Our office is located on the THEARC campus in Southeast DC.About the PositionThe Director of Individual Giving will focus on cultivating and securing individual and major gifts. Responsibilities include identifying, developing, and securing new donor prospects, supporting campaigns, setting annual goals with leadership, creating strategies for major gifts, leading solicitations, and managing deadlines to meet financial targets. The role also involves overseeing volunteer fundraising committees and events like the annual Gala and spring Tea. The position requires local travel and some evening and weekend work, with staff expected to work from the THEARC office when not in meetings.Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-150 high-net-worth individuals, securing major and annual gifts.
  • Enhance individual giving through donor cultivation.
  • Develop strategies for all major gift prospects, evaluating their status regularly.
  • Lead fundraising for events, coordinating with leadership for solicitations.
  • Secure major gifts ranging from $25,000 to $2,000,000, with a minimum annual goal of $1 million.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator, setting priorities aligned with financial goals, and promoting professional growth.
  • Draft proposals for major gifts.
  • Conduct donor research to qualify prospects.
  • Track moves management and donor interactions in the database.
  • Coordinate with the development team to align efforts and goals.
  • Recognize major donors publicly and privately.
  • Report progress quarterly using specific metrics.
  • Collaborate with the team on stewardship, prospecting, proposals, and appeals, identifying areas for growth.Qualifications & Requirements
    • Passion for the mission of Building Bridges and serving under-resourced communities.
    • B.A./B.S. degree preferred.
    • At least 5 years of progressive development experience.
    • Proven success in securing five- and six-figure gifts.
    • Self-motivated with excellent customer service skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate the mission effectively.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Proficiency in software such as Windows, Microsoft Office, donor databases like Donor Perfect, and willingness to learn new platforms.
    • Creative, strategic thinker with high emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity.
    • Energetic team player committed to the organization's mission.
    • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.Salary & Benefits: This full-time position offers a salary of $140,000-$150,000, with benefits including PTO, Holiday Pay, Medical, Dental, Vision, and a 401(k) plan.
