Job Description:
Lycoming College is hiring a part-time Communications Officer to
join the Public Safety team. Lycoming College, one of the nations
oldest residential liberal arts and sciences colleges, invites
candidates for two full-time openings with the Public Safety team
as a Communications Officer. With a first-rate undergraduate
education and an increased commitment to fostering an inclusive and
equitable campus community that supports all faculty, staff, and
students, we are seeking candidates who can support and contribute
to ourmissionand2021 strategic plan. This position is often the
first departmental contact for the Lycoming Community within the
Public Safety Office. Fulfilling this role requires Communication
Officers to be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences
of all members of Lycomings diverse community and be adept at
supporting and enhancing the campus experience of all with whom
they work. This position has a schedule of Friday-Saturday from
11pm-7am. The pay for the position begins at $13.50 per hour and
includes retention bonuses of $.50 per hour after six months of
active employment and an additional $1.00 per hour after a year of

employer. What will I do in this role? - Respond promptly to and
properly document calls for service in accordance with applicable
policies and procedures for functions including, but not limited
to: - Alarms (fire, physical plant systems, and other) - Assisting
with students, employees, visitors - Emergencies - Communicate
effectively and respectfully with all members of the campus
community and visitors. - Accept and return lost and found property
according to the established policies and procedures - Complete
communication logs - radio/telephone log - vehicle use log -
Responsible for distributing keys and returning them to the key
cabinet - De-escalate difficult situations by remaining calm, being
empathetic, and maintaining impulse control to resolve matters
while ensuring the exercise of authority respects the rights of
individuals and groups, identities and lived experiences. - Assist
local law enforcement, fire, and other emergency service agencies
in the performance of duties when requested. - Perform other duties
as requested. What are we looking for? Education Required: High
school diploma Experience and Qualifications: Skills: - Computer
skills essential (knowledge of Microsoft Word; experience using
email and internet) - Excellent customer service and
interpersonal/communications skills required to respond to
sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact (e.g. listening,
verbal/non-verbal skills) - Strong written communication skills to
effectively communicate and document required reports. Abilities: -
Ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of college
policies and procedures. - Ability to make quick decisions using
sound judgment in emergency situations. - Ability to carry out
verbal and written instructions - Ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times
- Ability to demonstrate professional conduct in highly sensitive
or volatile situations - Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous
responsibilities at all times, most significantly in stressful
