Job Overview
The Environmental, Health & Safety Coordinator will ensure adequate training for employees, effectively communicate SOPs, maintain records, and follow up with employees regularly to ensure they succeed in their positions. The Safety Coordinator will lead the Safety Committee, lead accident investigations, coordinate safety training and be the go-to person for safety clarification. Individual will also support operations projects as needed that relate to employee safety and productivity. (Goal is to not be "safety police" but to be safety guidance and encouragement/constant presence with the goal always to be leading folks to safety in a leadership manner as a coach).
Duties and Responsibilities


  • Key employee to enforce continuous improvement for safety and training while leading by example
  • Coordinates the success of and participate in the training initiative for employees; utilizing SOPs and on the job training (OJT) to ensure effectiveness
  • Enforces compliance of safety policies; recommends new or updated safety policies to Manager
  • Coordinate and participate in providing feedback to Manager on non-compliance related to training activities and/or safety audits; recommends actions to be taken to correct compliance
  • Works with Production Manager to complete 5S audits
  • Complies with and understands industrial guidelines needed for compliance; works with internal and external resources to manage all Environmental Health & Safety requirements (i.e. OSHA and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), NIOSH regulations)
  • Manages scheduling, conducting, logging and tracking of environmental inspections and environmental assessment reports for fire extinguishers, air, water and Waste Management Program (Hazardous & Non-hazardous)
  • Work with employees to improve processes and eliminate waste
  • Recommends and maintains PPE inventory
  • Confirms labeling and markings of new equipment are good before used; ensures new equipment runs safetly and suitable training is provided for employees to run equipment
  • Evaluate job positions and eliminate hazards (Job Safety Analysis)
  • Leads for the Safety Committee; follows through on issues presented to the committee
  • Participate in morning department start up meetings with a "presence for safety"
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of safety communication - e.g. Safety Boards, SDS sheets, LOTO boards, Toolbox Talks, JHA, safety alert communications
  • Evaluates safety incidents; uses corrective action as needed
  • Evaluate daily issues, analyze information, and reports findings
  • Updates and develops spreadsheets and/or communications needed
  • Assist with any other needs relating to the process control, training program and safety of the Company
  • Become a "trainer" with regards to in-house training, certifications, and licenses
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

    • Ability to understand and exercise proper hazardous waste handling and emergency procedures
    • Proficient in MS Office and Safety Management software
    • Experience in using various types of manufacturing machinery

      Minimum Qualifications
      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.       • Experience as Safety Coordinator or similar role with understanding of safety procedures
      • 2+ years production experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
      • Excellent physical fitness with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 pounds

        Training Requirements

        • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Training within 6 months of hire; annual training thereafter
        • Emergency / Contingency Training within 6 months of hire; annual refresher training thereafter
        • OSHA 30 Training within 6 months of hire; every 5 years thereafter
        • Forklift Certification preferred

          While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
          The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is equally moderate to loud.
          Time will be spent on the production floor requiring the use of PPE (personal protective equipment) (i.e. safety glasses, hard hats, high visibility vest, and safety shoes). Time will also be spent in the office analyzing reports.

          While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
          Language Skills
          Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual English/Mandarin is a plus.
