Overview The Operations Director will be the operations leader for
their plants within the Food and Nutrition -Business Unit, and will
drive operational performance, manufacturing improvements and
people development while helping to set the BU Operational plan.
He/she will have the leadership required to deliver Operational
Excellence (OPEX) while supporting, driving and enhancing the
plants day to day Operations. The Operations Director reports to
the VP of Operations for the Business Unit. -As a member of the
Operations team, he/she will have an opportunity to influence the
strategic direction of the company and the business's operational
plan. Responsibilities Position Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe
Operations Director will focus on driving the tactical execution
and improvement of Graham's safety, quality, maintenance, and
operating system (GOS) while delivering financial performance.
Additionally, the Operations Director will lead, coach and develop
people in their plant to increase skills and abilities, while
delivering day to day performance.Strategic Leadership:
- Builds a culture of trust, integrity, teamwork, and mutual
respect
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to Plant Management
and their teams, establishing priorities and aligning all site
functions
- Develop and implement clear short and long-term goals for each
plant
- Partners closely with sales, engineering, and finance teams to
monitor product launch timelines
- Coordinate operations and communications within, between and
among various functional areasPeople Development:
- Act as a role model and leader to Plant Managers ensuring that
they lead their teams effectively
- Recruit and develop the best leadership teams for each
locationCoach, empower and develop people while building a pipeline
of talent to ensure succession for critical plant roles.
- Develop strong, capable plant teams that have the technical
skills and motivation to be successful, drive lower employee
turnover and improve retention.
- Align the plant people resources with the commercial demands to
ensure sufficient resources exist to operate effectively and to an
effective costDrive OPEX:
- Ensure all plants have the Graham Operating System (GOS) fully
operational and effective with good daily management and problem
solving that drives improvement in the operational KPI
- Further develop operational standards to ensure that all key
plant processes and practices are standardized across
locations
- Ensure each business has an operational plan that is used as a
long term plan for the factory, with an effective improvement
planDrive Continuous Improvement:
- Foster and promote the Continuous Improvement mindset
throughout the organization
- Drive continuous improvement and Innovation within Operations
particularly in the area of Safety, Quality, Cost and People
management, Drive the 'Safety first' culture:
- Drive safety as the first priority at all times, set the
example for the organization.
- Empower people in Plants to ensure they follow all required
safety guidelines and solving methodologies to reduce the number of
recordable accidents in the plants.
- Follow up and analyze Safety Operations' results and KPIs to
develop and drive safety standards as part of GOS and the broader
operational strategyBudget and financial performance
- Ensure continual improvement in conversion cost and
productivity as a result of OPEX and other operational
initiatives.
- Lead the preparation of the Plants annual budget and make sure
it is followed and properly tracked
- Develop and ensure that an effective reporting and forecasting
system is in place and accurate. Evaluate monthly financial
results, investigate significant variances, and initiate corrective
and/or improvement activity in collaborating with the Finance
department Qualifications Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10+ years of experience in senior operational positions,
preferably in the Plastic/Packaging Industry or related
industry
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, coaching and change
management/leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, an empower employees
to be disciples of lean manufacturing; create a culture of
growth
- Strategic thinker with proven problem-solving skills and
analytical ability
- Travel up to 75% of the time required, including some
