Role Overview As an Experimental CNC Machinist, you will support the production and development of precision components used in advanced space systems. You will set up and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate, modify, and inspect parts to exact specifications. This role supports experimental and developmental work, often requiring careful problem-solving, precision, and collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers. Your work directly contributes to the reliability and performance of next-generation space technologies. Key Duties / Responsibilities • Machine, fabricate, and assemble parts according to drawings and operation sheet specifications • Interpret computer-aided design (CAD) data, prints, and sketches • Set up and operate one or more CNC machining centers (horizontal and vertical) • Perform drilling, milling, boring, tapping, and related machining operations • Verify numerical control (NC) code during setup and execution • Select and install appropriate cutting tools and complete machine zeroing and setup adjustments • Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during machine cycles • Inspect parts during and after production using standard measurement tools, including micrometers, indicators, calipers, and depth gauges • Maintain coolant levels and perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment • Provide feedback to Manufacturing Engineers on processes, tooling, and fixturing to improve efficiency • Review machining results against performance targets and communicate production goals during shift • Troubleshoot machining challenges, including work-holding, material behavior, tooling, and machine settings • Support statistical or other quality control procedures as required Work Environment This position is based in King of Prussia, PA within Lockheed Martin Space Production Operations. You will work in a precision machining and developmental laboratory environment where accuracy and attention to detail are critical. The role requires operating CNC equipment and using precision measurement tools. The pace is production-driven, with collaboration between machinists and engineering teams to refine processes and meet schedule targets. Flexibility is important, as production schedules may require overtime, alternate shifts, or weekend work. Flexibility for overtime, weekends, alternate shifts, and off-Fridays is required based on production needs. Ability to work remotely Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. Work Schedule Information Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits. Security Clearance Information This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration. Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $47,100 - $83,030. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
