Overview of the Role:
This position is responsible for the design of new products,
usually within a specific area of Woodstream's business (i.e.:
Victor, Terro, Zareba, Perky Pet, or Safer); however, crossover
into other product areas on a short- or long-term basis may be
required. - Creativity, broad understanding of specific
manufacturing processes, and results oriented mindset are the
skills required for this position. - A drive for excellence and a
commitment to meet deadlines is also key to success in this
position. - Making sure designs meet important functional,
aesthetic, and performance attributes, and have tolerances which
are realistic and incorporate manufacturing limitations and
capabilities.
Specific Responsibilities:
Maintains existing products, creates "clean sheet" designs or
portions of a design based on a marketing specification, works on
cost-down opportunities re-designing products to reduce cost using
alternate materials of construction or improved designs
Responsible for assisting in the design and construction of
production test fixtures for new product launches
Research to identify technologies which improve products or fill
gaps in an existing product. - Patent searches and analyses are
also within the role of this position
Responsible for benchmarking competitive products and maintaining a
current knowledge of products, designs, and capabilities to enable
the identification of Woodstream's related product advantages and
disadvantages.
Creating 3D prototypes of parts using 3D printers
Working knowledge in use of SolidWorks or other similar 3D CAD
computer system
Successful Candidate Profile:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering -combined with
3 to 7 years of experience in product development / engineering
activities
Plastics part design experience is highly desirable
Excellent hands-on skills including but not limited to machining
metals, sheetmetal fabrication, and general shop equipment use are
also highly desirable
