Summary Description:
Under direction, is responsible for administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for the students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community. Responsibilities include establishing a conducive learning climate, defining roles, planning and coordinating programs, effecting change, and decision-making. While the principal oversees the entire school program, many duties may be delegated to assistants for implementation.

Work beyond a 40-hour week and attend evening and weekend meetings as required. Ability to respond to school requirements at any time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• 
  
• Thorough knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) policies, procedures, the Call to Action Plan, the Program of Studies, and relevant regulations and laws.
  
• Thorough knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services.
  
• Proven competence in staff selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
  
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to act effectively under stress.
  
• Ability to motivate and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance and good morale.
  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
  
  Education, Training, and Experience:
  Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on supervision, educational administration, and secondary school curriculum. A doctorate is desirable. A minimum of 5 years in teaching, administration, or supervision, with at least 3 years of secondary school teaching experience. Completion of an administrative internship and/or experience as an assistant principal is desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
  Certificate/License:
  Meet Maryland certification requirements for Administrator II.
